Hello all! Welcome to Caregivers, Stress, and Stress Relief! I am a graduate student at Texas Woman's University (TWU) working on a Master's degree in Health Studies. During this semester (Fall, 2014) we will examine issues related to caring for mentally and physically disabled children, mentally ill adults, and seniors with Alzheimer's disease, among others. I will look at the different types of stress that can affect caregivers, and examine ways to reduce and relieve this stress. Take a few short minutes every week to check back and see what's new!

  1. I'm so excited to read your blog! Caregiver depression and suicide are rising and the disparities between those who receive respite care with those who need it are alarming! Let's team up and do some research!

  2. Elizabeth,

Caregiver stress is such an interesting topic. While working in the emergency room it is not uncommon for caregivers to bring their family with dementia or Alzheimers in with their bags packed hoping to get them admitted to the hospital. This is the result of pure exhaustion while trying to care for them at home. Unfortunately, they do not always meet admission criteria. I am eager to hear what ideas you have about this topic!

  3. Liz,
Caregiver stress is one of my research interests. I am glad you are covering this in your blog. You are going to show how it is a major issue and how we as health educators need to make sure the issue is handled diligently.
